Paul M. Hoffman, LICSW

Originally from Woodbury, New York, I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1970's.

I began my career as a Child Life Worker at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland in 1972. After moving to Rhode Island in 1976, I worked in the children's unit of RI Hospital for two years, followed by three years in the Barrington, RI Public Schools, and four years at the Cranston, RI Community Mental Health Clinic. I have been in private practice since 1985.

I enjoy working with people of all ages, and greatly appreciate the perspective on human growth and development that comes with such a broad based practice.
Just when I feel like I've "seen it all", someone with an unusual set of life experiences walks into my office. I find these opportunities to be of help quite rewarding.

I have a problem-solving approach to therapy. I believe that personal growth is the result of taking action. Change at its core means we are thinking and acting differently than before. I try to provide insight that inspires my clients' resolve and determination to take action that will lead to lasting change.

I encourage my clients to have meaningful pursuits and passions. Mine include playing jazz guitar and ukulele, singing standards and folk, writing for a track and field website (www.speedendurance.com), and taking care of my dog, cats, hens, and parakeets.  I am the proud Grandfather of three wonderful children!
